TORN CURTAIN

March 13, 2009

Not the movie by Alfred Hitchcock, but Jesus, he tore the curtain.

For the sun stopped shining. and the curtain of the temple was torn in two. Jesus called out with a loud voice, "Father, into your hands I commit my spirit." When he said this, he breathed his last.
- Luke 23:45,46 TNIV

The torn curtain. There was a curtain in the Temple in Jerusalem. The curtain separated the world from the Holy of Holies, the place of God. There was no access to the place of God except by the High Priest once per year on the Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur). But the curtain is torn. Through faith in Jesus Christ we have access to the father, Jesus opened it for his people. No more offerings, no sacrifices; Jesus is the sacrifice, and our high priest. It is complete, it is finished. When we see Jesus, we see the Father.

We have it all in Christ. The torn curtain is evidence of that life-changing reality. We have no sacrifice to bring; we don't need one. The sacrifice God looks for is a broken heart, a heart committed to Christ.
Joyfully,
