Return to the Lord your God, for he is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love, and he relents from sending calamity.

 

Joel's message is not a word to terrorize, but one of love.  Why would one who loves allow loved ones to go on down a road leading to self-destruction.  So Joel's message of the coming Day of the Lord, is the cure, is the message of compassion and love.

And it comes down to shub, to return, to repent, a message to change the way one is going.
