MATURITY

I knew a man when I was a chaplain in prison who had been baptized seventeen times. Apparently, he knew a little about repentance, that's good; he knew very little about growing up, maturity.
Therefore let us move beyond the elementary teachings about Christ and be taken forward to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance...

"Getting saved," coming to faith in Christ, fantastic! But discipleship is about growing up. We're told here, "taken forward to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance. The guy in prison kept re-committing, but he never went beyond it.
"We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised." (1:12) It's about maturity; you and me growing up.
