RESCUE ME

Fontella Bass had a hit forty years ago: "Rescue me...and I'm blue I need you." The cry is for someone to get her out of a situation where she can't help herself.

For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do--this I keep on doing.
For in my inner being I delight in God's law; but I see another law at work in me, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within me. What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!

If you have committed your life to Jesus Christ, I assume, when you read Romans 7, you must say, "Yep, that's me!" Wanting to honor Christ, but always tripping over a compulsion to betray and break that very commitment. To which Paul himself says, "Yep, that's me!" AND, "Who will rescue me?" And he answers it.

And you have been rescued too. Thanks be to God. We have been rescued. So let us persevere, not give up, but press on to faithfulness to our Lord, Jesus Christ. [Oh...you also may take a thoughtful read of Romans 7:13-25]
