TWO THINGS

Lord, have mercy, I enjoyed the movie about a guy who wanted to play football at a university in South Bend, Indiana, "Rudy." When the hero, Rudy, visited the priest for counsel, the priest shared this biblical wisdom: "I've come to learn two things: There is a God, and I'm not him."

It does not, therefore, depend on human desire or effort, but on God's mercy....
Therefore God has mercy on whom he wants to have mercy, and he hardens whom he wants to harden.
- Romans 9:16,18 TNIV

God is god, and we're not. Humbling, isn't it, as is God's mercy. Are we really so bold to think that we are more just, more "fair", and therefore, we know how mercy ought to work, and are justified in questioning God's administration of mercy?

Instead I urge us this day, as we have a shred of faith in Christ in our hearts, let us rejoice that God showers mercy on us! Trust the rest to God. God is god, and we're not.
