LAODICEA COFFEE
November 18, 2009
"Moderation in all things." "I don't want to get too excited." This may be good street wisdom for us common folk, but it may be quite contrary to the spirit of what it means to follow Jesus Christ.
I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm--neither hot nor cold--I am about to spit you out of my mouth.
- Revelation 3:15,16 TNIV
The church at Laodicea believed in "moderation in all things." The angel warned them that a tepid faith is worthless. I was having breakfast with a friend and his coffee had gone a bit cool, so when the waiter started to "freshen" the cup, my friend said, "No. Could you please pour this out and give me only hot stuff? I don't want Laodicea coffee, thank you." Of course, the waiter was clueless, but did as requested.
To be a Christ-follower has little to do with being lukewarm, moderate, as the angel warned the Laodiceans. What if we prayed to be hot in our passion for Christ?
Joyfully,
