The Songs

When people read The Revelation of John, I notice that as a rule they discount or overlook the songs. What do you mean? Those passages within John's vision that carry the important words of hope and encouragement.

"Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb."
"For the Lamb at the center before the throne will be their shepherd, he will lead them to springs of living water. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes."
- Revelation 7:10,17 TNIV

To a people in pressure and persecution, it's not the riddle-solving mysterious words of Revelation that will be a breath of Gospel, but the songs that the vision announces like: "salvation belongs the Lamb...who will be their shepherd...will lead them to springs of living water." We get so interested in cracking the "revelation code" that we risk missing its two thousand year power.

The Revelation announces to a struggling people, people struggling to remember they are God's people that the creator God is in charge, the Lord Almighty, and Jesus Christ is the redeemer, and rescuer. Listen to the songs, that's their message, and that's our hope.
