MY OWN EYES

January 6, 2010

"Seeing is believing." Doubting Thomas wanted to see the risen Christ before he'd jump on the resurrection band wagon. Yet when confirmation happens, what do we do with it?

When the Queen of Sheba heard about the fame of Solomon and his relationship to the Lord, she came to test Solomon with hard questions.
"Because of the Lord's eternal love for Israel, he has made you king to maintain justice and righteousness."
- 1 Kings 10:1,9 TNIV

From a distant land, the Queen of Sheba heard colossal stories of the greatness of Solomon and the kingdom he'd built. She paid him a visit, because she couldn't believe it. Yet when she actually saw it, she said, "I did not believe these things until I came and saw with my own eyes." Yet quickly she also discerned another staggering truth, having seen with her own eyes, she knew this great blessing on Solomon was for others, and for a higher purpose than the glory of Solomon--it was for King Solomon to insure justice and righteousness.

Perhaps not just like Solomon, but we too are a much-blessed people, but such blessing is not for personal consumption but to be stewards of justice and righteousness as well. To launch into a new year, it is sobering to remember that our blessings are to bless others.
Joyfully,
