CATTLE ON A THOUSAND HILLS

February 3, 2010

The Psalmist tells us that our father in heaven owns the cattle on a thousand hills. (Psalm 50:10). In other words, there are no shortages in God's inventory, from which to assist his loved ones.

She went and told the man of God and he said, "Go, sell the oil and pay your debts. You and your sons can live on what is left."
- 2 Kings 4:7 TNIV

Elisha hears the lament of a widow with virtually nothing to her name, she and her sons are about to starve. Elisha asks her if she has anything, to which she says she has a little olive oil left. Hearing her desperation, Elisha tells her to ask her neighbors for empty jars and to pour a little bit of oil that is left into each of the empty jars. She pours and she pours, and soon she has more oil than she's ever heard of and her poverty, her debt is wiped out and her 401k is replenished.

Such stories can be twisted to ill-use. But let us be assured, the God Elisha served, the God that Elisha pointed the starving widow unto, had no shortage of olive oil. I do not know your challenges this day. But rest assured, if you call out to this God of compassion, this God owns the cattle on a thousand hills. Your prayers are focused on the right source. So let us keep on praying, my friend.
Joyfully,
