KILL THE MESSENGER
February 8, 2010
It's an age-old truth it seems, we people confuse the message with the messenger. Imagine beating up the mail carrier because they bring a bad news letter?

He said, "May God deal with me, be it ever so severely, if the head of Elisha, son of Shaphat remains on his shoulders today!"
- 2 Kings 6:31 TNIV
People don't' get it. The king is angry when Elisha, God's messenger tells him:
1. News the king finds disagreeable, and
2. News that's true, wise, but requires the king to change his plans.
We people, like kings throughout history, rather than heed the message and change, think by killing the messenger we can:
1. Change the message,
2. Change wisdom and the truth,
3. Change God, even kill God.
The King of Israel teaches us that the issue is not:
1. The messenger,
2. Maybe not even the message,
3. The issue is us! Most kings never get it. I pray we do.
Joyfully,
Dale Patterson
