Enjoy Life, Enjoy God

I'm not speaking philosophically, but practically--the question rises, is there something worse than death? The Israelites thought so.

"Was it because there were no graves in Egypt that you brought us to the desert to die? What have you done to us by bringing us out of Egypt? It would be better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the desert!"
---Exodus 14:11,12 TNIV

The Israelites hate slavery and cry out for freedom. Yet when freedom is in their grasp, the fear of death causes them to give up on freedom and cave into fear. The fear of death at the hand of the Egyptian chariots and army was greater than dying as slaves in Egypt.

Fear often drowns out the summons of faith. Moses invited the summons to faith: "Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today." (Exodus 14:13) And that's my summons to us as well.
