Enjoy Life, Enjoy God

What is required of us, what does this religion demand? Like all religious leaders, Jesus too is asked about what work does one have to do to embrace the God they seek.

Then they asked him, "What must we do to do the works God requires?"
Jesus answered, "The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent."
- John 6:28,29 TNIV

Work? Work is what religious people come to expect. "Tell us the do's and the don'ts; how much to give, what service does this god demand of us." Yet typical of Jesus, he turns the tables. "Yes, work, your work is to believe the one God sent." Belief is the central work of the Christian. In truth that does beg the question: What is it to believe? We deal with that on many other occasions. Belief is the issue, not work.

By no means is Jesus offering up a "head religion," one merely of thoughts, but turning away from the burden of work unto a vibrant faith, a life-giving center of renewal.
