TWO ROADS

May 14, 2010

"Two roads diverged in a yellow wood..." starts Robert Frost's "The Road Less-Travelled." "And that has made all the difference." Many of us want to live lives that are "different," yet we do the same.

I was reading again and praying from The Valley of Vision prayerbook. It speaks of two roads:
Teach me that if I do not live a life that satisfies thee, I shall not live a life that will satisfy myself.
Road #1, the road often taken, that of personal preference, and "what I want to do."
Road #2, a road much less taken, "Lord, what would you have me to do? I will obey you in spite of my lesser longings."

Self-satisfaction, happiness, prays the Puritan, never comes from self-indulgence. God's saints tell us one thing, the world around us offers quite different counsel. Who's right? The Puritans or the word on the street? Seldom will we have a clearer choice. "The truth will set us free."
Joyfully,
