FACE TO FACE

May 26, 2010

Imagine coming face to face with your favorite celebrity, or a person of great significance. Who would that be, and what would that be like? The story of the man born blind contains a peculiar twist.

Jesus heard that they had driven [the man born blind] out, and when he found him, he said, "Do you believe in the Son of Man?" He answered, "And who is he, sir? Tell me, so that I may believe in him." Jesus said to him, "You have seen him, and the one speaking with you is he." He said, "Lord, I believe." And he worshiped him.
- John 9:35-38 NRS

For the first time, at the end of the story, the man born blind sees Jesus, and talks with him face to face. The crowds told him about Jesus; the Pharisees repeatedly examined him as to his connection with Jesus, but he had never seen him until the end of the story. Then the man worships Jesus.

Most of us will not see Jesus face to face until our graduation day. In the meantime, we serve him, we love him and worship him, and we do that by how we love one another, and the world around us.
Joyfully,
