GPS

Having just returned from a bicycle trip in the hinterlands of Colorado, I'm especially grateful for a GPS, a global positioning system. The tool helps one find the way.

Thomas said to him, "Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?" Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."
- John 14:5,6 NRS

It's the belief of many that there is a God-shaped void in every human. As a result, we are on the way, searching, looking to fill it, fill it ultimately with God. Thomas asks the nearly universal human question: "How do we get there? How do we find our way?" To which Jesus answers, "Follow me, and you will find the way."

The GPS plots the way for us, and it is true, we can follow it, ignore it, or plot alternative courses. But Jesus says, "If you follow me, you will know the way, and the way leads to the Father, to God." Jesus answers Thomas' question. Jesus plots the course to fill the God-shaped void.
Joyfully,
