JUSTICE & THE PROPHET

September 14, 2010

To be a prophet is much less about seeing into the future, much more about calling the people to faithfulness. Isaiah is no exception.
In that day the Branch of the Lord will be beautiful and glorious, and the fruit of the land will be the pride and glory of the survivors in Israel. Those who are left in Zion, who remain in Jerusalem, will be called holy, all who are recorded among the living in Jerusalem.
-Isaiah 3:2,3 TNIV

Isaiah cried out to the people of God of gross injustice in their land that they tolerated and perpetuated. That God’s justice would roll down. And it happened. The people of God were conquered, justice triumphed. Yet good news breaks unto the survivors of the accountability. Springing up from the judgment will be "the Branch of the Lord" and it will be beautiful for the survivors to see.

Why is this important for people to hear thousands of years later? At the very least the prophet speaks once again to a people who easily tolerate injustice. Today is the day to put things right. To those who do, they can find safe harbor in the Branch of the Lord.

Joyfully,
