A FRUITFUL VINEYARD
September 16, 2010
Imagine owning a grape vineyard to produce fine wine but the vineyard never produced grapes.
I will sing for the one I love a song about his vineyard: My loved one had a vineyard on a fertile hillside. He dug it up and cleared it of stones and planted it with the choicest vines.... then he looked for a crop of good grapes, but it yielded only bad fruit. -Isaiah 5:1,2 TNIV
Isaiah has a vision of abundance, of a fruitful vineyard, but he sees withered vines. What a bummer, what a tragedy. Isaiah speaks of the people of God: "The vineyard of the Lord Almighty is the house of Israel, and the people of Judah are the vines he delighted in." (7)
I want to live a fruitful life, don't you? A life that honors the owner of the vineyard, Jesus Christ. So Isaiah speaks across the ages as we dwell in the Lord's vineyard today.
Joyfully,
