GOD'S WAYS

September 22, 2010

People often try to boil the faith down to simple rationalizations, common sense, or street smarts. But sometimes street smarts aren't all that smart, and finally, God's ways often are not our ways.

Do not call conspiracy everything this people calls a conspiracy; do not fear what they fear and do not dread it.
The Lord Almighty is the one you are to regard as holy, he is the one you are to fear, he is the one you are to dread. He will be a holy place...
- Isaiah 8:12-14 TNIV

A few of the dangers of living in a democracy is we come to think that not only does the majority rule, but the majority is right. So there is constant appeal to opinion polls, how many people believe such 'n' such, or we're told the number of people who are happy or unhappy with a certain policy. But none of those numbers make the majority right, correct, or true.

The prophet Isaiah reminds the people of God when the majority cries out "conspiracy," or tells us what we are to fear, to beware. The beginning of wisdom is the fear of God, seeking God's leadership of our lives. God's ways are the ways we shall live. That's what makes Christ-centered sense.
Joyfully,
