"Let's be practical." BEWARE! These words often are the first steps to departing from kingdom thinking, an invitation to put one's faith on hold.

Oh, rebellious children, says the Lord, who carry out a plan, but not mine; who make an alliance, but against my will, adding sin to sin; who set out to go down to Egypt without asking for my counsel, to take refuge in the protection of Pharaoh, and to seek shelter in the shadow of Egypt; therefore the protection of Pharaoh shall become your shame, and the shelter of Egypt your humiliation...
- Isaiah 30:1-3 NRS

The people of God are scared. They know they are about to be conquered by the world power of the day. Beware of the things we'll do when we're anxious, frightened. The people of God are quick to give up on trusting God, and quick to "be practical." They plan an alliance with a nicer-enemy, Egypt. Isaiah screams, "We are doomed." The Planners say, "Let's be practical."

They made the alliance and, oh, yes, they were doomed!
