Enjoy Life, Enjoy God

My recollection tells me the human heart has four chambers: two atria, and two ventricles. Yet our goal is but one.

Teach me your way, O Lord, that I may walk in your truth; give me an undivided heart to revere your name.
- Psalm 86:11 NRS

An undivided heart? It would not change the physiology of the heart's chambers, but it would change the unity of our passions, our desires, our commitments. The Psalmist knows the peril and impotence of divided loyalties and desires with which we all wrestle. But he prays.

Is that a prayer that we could pray? That we would want to pray? "Lord, give me an undivided heart." To pray that we would serve the Lord above all others: Is that even our desire, and if it is, it would be good for it to be our prayer.
