SUSTENANCE

I love to cook, and I love to eat good food. I'm blessed, rarely have I paused to eat for pure sustenance, to stay alive.

The Sovereign Lord has given me an instructed tongue, to know the word that sustains the weary.

- Isaiah 50:4 TNIV

Isaiah understands that God in speaking to him provides sustenance not only for Isaiah, but for the people of God. We know about God providing manna and water in the wilderness wanderings, literal food. What the people of God forget right up until today is how the words of God are food for us as well. What's the saying, "We don't dwell on bread alone?"

Eternal sustenance comes in God's Word being stored up in our hearts and minds. Isaiah's instructed tongue gives us just such a life-giving reminder.
