As the people of God, we have a husband. We are wed to God, and, God is wed to God's people.

"For your Maker is your husband--the Lord Almighty is his name--the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer...The Lord will call you back as if you were a wife deserted and distressed in spirit--Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed," says the Lord, who has compassion on you.
- Isaiah 54:5,6,10 TNIV

"Your husband," God tells Isaiah. God is bound to his people no matter what. It is true our husband may call us to task, and summon us to remember our vows, our devotion, but God will not cast us off, in spite of ourselves.

We can count on that. Not much we can count on in this world, but we can count on the promise that God will never cast us aside. That is a good cause to give thanks this Thanksgiving Day. An in-spite-of-relationship with the living God. That's the Good News too.
