SO THAT

January 14, 2011

"So that..." When such an expression is used in English, it's about causation. "In order that," or "to accomplish." The words on both sides of a "so that" are important.

...You have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All scripture is God' breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that all God's people may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
                                                     - 2 Timothy 3:15,6 TNIV

It's not about a passing grade on some Bible trivia quiz, but to grow in the knowledge of the Scripture. It's as if God speaks to us, AND it builds us up, it equips. In other words: "Do this (study and apply the scripture to our lives) SO THAT the outcome may happen (be equipped, mature)."

Paul is obsessed with causation. I pray we are as well. So that.

Joyfully,
