TRUTH - LOVE

Sometimes we use truth like a hammer. Sometimes we turn love into a syrupy whim, a vapid sentiment. They go hand in hand, however.

It has given me great joy to find some of your children walking in the truth, just as the Father commanded us. And now, dear lady, I am not writing you a new command but one we have had from the beginning.

John experiences joy when he sees us walking in truth. Yet notice how he connects truth and love. If that is not lived in loving one another, OR, love is not grounded in truth-it's almost as if they are neither love nor truth.

Our Postmodern days have little use for truth. Let this mistake not be ours. However, our commitment to the truth summons us to Christ's command: love one another. Not just our buddies, but all. (Matthew 5:44)
