Enjoy Life, Enjoy God

How do we learn a behavior, a lifestyle? Is it instinct, example, a teaching environment like a classroom, or some other means? Depends, doesn't it?

Teach the older men to be temperate, worthy of respect, self-controlled, and sound in faith, in love and in endurance.
                                                  - Titus 2:2 TNIV

Paul challenges an often-held cultural assumption: respect comes with age. Paul says, "Wait a minute. Not so fast." Just putting in time, the process of aging, does not necessarily earn respect or accomplish other virtues. "Teach the older men..." The clear implication is that such virtues do not happen by merely showing up a day older, but are learned virtues as well.

Child or senior, as Christ-followers, we are all students and disciples of Jesus Christ until that last breath and heartbeat. Carry on!

Joyfully,

Dale Patterson
