PRISONER

February 11, 2011

Have we ever been a prisoner? To be in chains, confined to a cell, captured--what might that be like?

Paul, a prisoner of Christ Jesus, and Timothy our brother, to Philemon our dear friend and worker--
                                               - Philemon 1 TNIV

It's pronounced, fye-LEE-mon. In the best sense of the word, it's Paul's sales pitch to his brother in Christ, Philemon, regarding a new brother in Christ, a young slave named, Onesimus. Clever isn't it, that Paul starts saying, I'm a prisoner of Jesus Christ, because the point of the letter is much about slavery. More to come...

Paul acknowledges that his life is captive to his Lord Jesus Christ. Paul is not his own boss, but Jesus Christ is. How might our lives be captive to Christ? To be a prisoner of Christ is our discipleship goal.

Joyfully,
