LAODICEA

March 3, 2011

Ever been clueless or completely wrong about your self-awareness? Meaning - was what and how you think of yourself completely different from what others may think and see?

"But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked. I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see."
                                               - Revelation 3:17,18 TNIV

The Laodiceans were clueless. They thought they were rich. They engineered an aqueduct to bring water from hot springs, but as the sulfur water cooled and was drunk in the town it reeked of rotten eggs, and you'd spit it out. When hot, it was great, but lukewarm it was awful. They also made an eye ointment that saved eyesight. Yet Jesus says, "You need salve from me, for you are blind."

They were like their town, they needed some salve to see, and water to drink that you wouldn't spit out. The Christians in Laodicea are a parable for us all. "Lord, it doesn't matter how I see myself. The only person I am concerned about, is how do you see me? Show me now, how you see, gracious God."

Joyfully,
