STRENGTH TO GO ON

March 14, 2011

Sometimes even with our best intentions, things seem to go against us, and even our friends grumble against us or abandon us. "What's the use?"

David was greatly distressed because the men were talking of stoning him, each one as bitter in spirit because of his sons and daughters. But David found strength in the Lord his God.
                                                  - 1 Samuel 30:8 TNIV

We all remember David's triumph over Goliath. But do we remember David defeated, depressed, abandoned, his own soldiers pondering mutiny and murdering him? In one of David's darkest times, his army had been routed, his family and his soldiers' families captured by the enemy, and he hears the murmur of his own men plotting his murder. David was having a bad day! "But David found strength in the Lord his God." Strength to go on.

That's our invitation and opportunity as well. No matter your circumstance, strength is not in the murderous threats of those around you but in the Lord. Look to your Lord. Make the Lord your strength. The Lord holds the strength, not the murmurs.

Joyfully,
