COME OUT IN THE WASH

March 31, 2011

When my simple, down-to-earth grandmother saw injustice going unpunished, and evil prospering, she would say, "Mark my word; it will all come out in the wash."

He who was seated on the throne said, "I am making everything new!"  Then he said, "Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true."
                                                 - Revelation 21:5 TNIV

Why?  John's Revelation announces a message quite similar to my grandmother's homespun wisdom.  With the coming of a new heaven and a new earth, the Lord Jesus Christ reigns, not evil, not the opposition, but evil and rebels are brought to justice; it comes out in the wash. "They will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur." (21:8)

This may not overcome the pain of suffering in the face of injustice, or the prospering of evil in our midst, but John announces what my grandma believed, evil will be brought to task, and not triumph.  There is hope in such redemption, and good news.  Remember: "I am making everything new."  And of course, "It'll all come out in the wash."

Joyfully,
