ALONE

May 27, 2011

Ever feel abandoned and all alone, as if those who had been with you have now deserted you?  Often it's because you have battled for a principle, and seemingly lost the war.

Elijah replied, "I have been very zealous for the Lord God Almighty.  The Israelites have rejected your covenant, torn down your altars, and put your prophets to death with the sword. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me too."
The Lord said, "Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by."
                                                 - 1 Kings 19:10,11 TNIV

Poor Elijah feels rejected, a failure, abandoned, betrayed, alone.  But he's wrong.  In one of the Bible's Greatest Hits stories, God directs Elijah to stand on top of the mountain of God, not denying Elijah's aloneness, but he has 7000 people pass before the mountain who remain faithful as if to say, "Elijah, you are not alone.  And don't forget who's talking to you."

Feelings need not be denied, but it doesn't mean they are correct.  Elijah was not alone, and neither are we.  God goes with you today in your endeavor.  ...Seven thousand whose knees have not bowed down to Baal--now be about your day.

Joyfully,
