CHARIOTS OF FIRE

June 15, 2011

Have you ever felt outnumbered, insignificant, and nearly hopeless?  Evidently it is not uncommon for people of faith.

"Don't be afraid," the prophet answered.  "Those who are with us are more than those who are with them."
And Elisha prayed, "Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see."  Then the Lord opened the servant's eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.
                                                   -- 2 Kings 6:16,17 TNIV

Elisha's servant thinks that they are doomed by the conquering army of Aram.  On the surface it looks as if the servant is right--hopelessly outnumbered, terrible weapons, they are goners.  But Elisha tells him otherwise, and he prays for the servant to see the host of troops on his side that God will send--to see the chariots of fire that will battle in behalf of God.  And he does.

How often we look at the obvious and surrender to our fears.  Instead pray to see the chariots of fire that go with us today.

Joyfully,
