HEZEKIAH 2

July 8, 2011

A metaphor is a means of comparison that does not use "like" or "as", but attributes to one the ideas of another.  There's a great metaphor of prayer in the Hezekiah Prayer.

Hezekiah received the letter from the messengers and read it.  Then he went up to the temple of the Lord and spread it out before the Lord.
                                                  - 2 Kings 19:14 TNIV

Hezekiah is delivered a death threat for himself and his kingdom from the king of Assyria.  Hezekiah's courage does not rest within, but in trusting God's faithfulness.  So he takes the letter, the death threat into the temple and "spreads it out before the Lord."  If there ever were a metaphor of true prayer I don't know what it would be.

When you pray, why not follow Hezekiah's example.  Spread it out, tell God everything, simply spread it out before the Lord.  That's true prayer.

Joyfully,
