TRUE TRUTH

August 2, 2011

The late Francis Schaeffer taught me the term "true truth." He was ahead of his time.  Truth has relativized in the past decades to be situational or defined by one's perspective.  Ironically there is "truth" in this, but still a place for "true truth."

This is the disciple who is testifying to these things and has written them, and we know that his testimony is true.  But there are also many others things that Jesus did; if every one of them were written down, I suppose that the world itself could not contain the books that would be written.
                                                     - John 21:24,25 NRS

These are the last words of John's Gospel; and John tells us that they not only are written, but are true.  I risk blasphemy quoting Schaeffer, the apostle John, and Jeffrey Lebowski in the same note to you, however... In the farcical movie, The Big Lebowski, the hero says, "Well, that's just like your opinion, man."

John says, "No, it's true truth, not merely situational, Mr. Lebowski, dude."

The reality today is that more people believe Lebowski than the gospel writer, but that doesn't make them correct or true.

The story of Jesus is true truth, and written that we believe in him.  Believe it!

Joyfully,
