Enjoy Life, Enjoy God
WAITING
August 4, 2011
There are several Josephs in the Bible: Joseph of the coat of many colors and prime minister of Egypt, Joseph the father of Jesus, and Joseph of Arimathea, an overlooked "Great Joseph" of the Bible.
Joseph of Arimathea, a prominent member of the Council, who was himself waiting for the kingdom of God, went to Pilate and asked for Jesus' body.
- Mark 15:43 TNIV
Joseph had much to lose in pursuing Jesus, since he was a Jewish community leader. Yet, he was looking for more than social standing and short-term benefits, he was looking for the kingdom of God. In Jesus, he knew the kingdom of God was fulfilled. He was investing in eternity.
Maybe we can learn something from this Joseph. What are we looking for today, and in in what are we investing? Joseph is remembered and is spoken of 2000 years later because of this simple phrase: "waiting for the kingdom of God."
Joyfully,
