MOUTH AND HEART

In the faith of Christ there is to be a unity - a total connection. What the mouth says, supposedly comes from the mind, and the words of our mouth are to reside in our heart. In other words, the beliefs we really live.

But what does it say? The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart, that is, the message concerning faith that we proclaim: If you declare with your mouth 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

The mouth and heart are connected symbolizing a unity of the whole person - of you, of me. Paul says that unity is literally what puts flesh on the faith of Jesus Christ. It's what saves.

Now, to be sure, we are wary of words that come easily to our lips; we know that true faith is lived out in the flesh by what we do. That gives integrity to the heart and mouth. And when it's real, a real connection exists, it bears the fruit of new life, salvation. Rejoice!
