I know how to cuss. I've done me some cussin'. It's not an issue of taboo, it is an issue of one's heart and mind, at least according to God.
Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. Keep your mouth free of perversity; keep corrupt talk far from your lips. Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you.

It's not that foul language offends others, or even God! That's misses the point entirely. Look at the invitation to wisdom in the words from Proverbs. "Guard your heart..." There is a connection between what comes out of my heart, my mind, my mouth, and these matters eat away at, they shape a person's soul.
Four letter words and vulgar language--they are not about taboo, they are about self-control. It's not just the effect on God, on others, it's as much about their effect on each one of us--from the inside out.
