JOB SPEAKS

February 2, 2012

After Job's friends begin their "comfort" of their suffering friend, Job finally interrupts, and answers his comforters.

He is not a mere mortal like me that I might answer him, that we might confront each other in court.
                                    ---Job 9:32 TNIV

Not only do Job's buddies offer him cheap cause and effect explanations of his life gone to hell, but they have a silly view of God.  Job does not understand his suffering to be sure, but he does not presume to think that God is like himself such that he can sit God down and give God a good talking to.

How often have we heard it said, "When I get to heaven I have a few questions I'm gonna ask God?"  Even Job says, "Really?  God is not a mortal that I might confront him, that I might judge God and set God straight!"  Job speaks wisdom even in the midst of his lament, wisdom spoken even to us, today.

Joyfully,
