Enjoy Life, Enjoy God
HOMECOMING
February 1, 2013
Almost every fall, my wife and I go to homecoming at our university, and enjoy old times, friends and family.
"Aren't all his sisters with us? Where then did this man get all these things?" And they took offense at him.
But Jesus said to them, "Only in their own towns and in their own homes are prophets without honor."
--Matthew 13:56,57 TNIV

But familiarity bred contempt. "Who is this Jesus? That's just Mary and Joseph's boy. We've known him since he was wet behind the ears." This was not a fond homecoming for Jesus. The people, his closest friends and family couldn't see his greatness for their familiarity.
The people were blind to Jesus, and his God-ness due to their own "knowledge." That can be a caution to us all. Jesus knew that familiarity might breed contempt.
