SECURITY-SAFETY

March 27, 2013

Sometimes it's like I've never read the New Testament. Did Jesus really say that?

"Take the bag of gold from him and give it to the one who has ten bags. For those who have will be given more, and they will have an abundance. As for those who do not have, even what they have will be taken from them. And throw that worthless servant outside into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth."
                                                  --Matthew 25:28-30 TNIV

The master, in this parable, gives bags of gold to three servants. Two servants take the trust given them and add to the investment. "Good job," says the master, "you shall have more trusted to you." The third, this servant is into security and safety, afraid to lose anything, and ergo, a lousy steward and servant of the trust. Read again Jesus' words to this servant, the one so concerned with safety and security.

I don't think this parable is so much about gold as it is about that which we have been entrusted. What are we doing with the trust God has granted us? At the very least, we can be sure, if safety and security are the agenda, we will lose them both.

Joyfully,
